Skip Barber: Rzadzinski Awarded Full Regional Race Series Scholarship

Edmonton, AB. December 9, 2010 –Stefan Rzadzinski
entered the 2010-2011 Skip Barber Karting Shootout focused on getting
the most out of the experience and himself, which paid off in much more
for the 17 year old Canadian driver.
Day 1 of the event started out with highway safety training, a
skidpad session, interviews and an autocross in Mazda MX-5’s and the
Skip Barber F2000 formula car. Overall, it was a great introduction to
the Skip Barber organization and the professionalism of the whole group.
It also became apparent that the level of talent among the 44 drivers
in the Shootout was deep.
The second day of the event commenced with media training and Derek
Daly’s seminar “What if it’s YOU” which brought a big picture view on
every young driver’s preparation to reach the top. The afternoon
commenced with the first on track session as four separate groups of
drivers took to the challenging Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca race track.
The first on track session for Rzadzinski was completed under wet
conditions, which was coincidentally only the third session he had ever
been in the Skip Barber F2000.
Day 3 was the most intense on track day with all four groups of
drivers completing two sessions on the 2.238 mile race track. Rzadzinski
set the fastest lap in his group for the morning session, along with
the fastest average lap. He followed it up with a third fastest lap in
session two, while maintaining the fastest average lap.
On the final day of the program, groups were reshuffled and drivers
were now paired in different groups for judges to look at. Rzadzinski
hit the track on a mission and managed the fastest lap in his group by
over half a second. In this session, Rzadzinski put down his fastest lap
of the weekend and ensured himself some consideration for one of the
$200,000 worth of scholarships which were to be handed out by Skip
Barber.
Following extensive deliberation and a long wait by all the drivers,
Rzadzinski was announced the recipient of a full Skip Barber Regional
Series Scholarship. Other awards included the two full Skip Barber
National program scholarships which were won by Trent Hindman and Danilo
Estrala. Along with this, Tristan Nunez won a half season National
scholarship. Scott Hargrove, Kenton Koch, and Kyle Kaiser all also won a
half season Regional scholarship as part of the 2010-2011 Skip Barber
Karting Shootout.
“This was a fantastic event and I am so thankful to Skip Barber,
Mazda, and all of the people who helped put this event together. The
instructors were extremely helpful in getting me up to speed, and I
could not have asked for a greater learning experience. I am extremely
excited to get going in 2011! Never in my racing career have I had any
sort of “finalized” plans before Christmas, so this is the best gift I
could have ever imagined.
Of course I could not have made it to this point without the
incredible support from The ABL Group, SuperTint, Teckelklub, CSP
Engineering, Shelemey Financial, Myrtle Beach Fire & Safety Co., and
Lube-X. They’re the real reason I had any sort of opportunity in
motorsports in the first place, and I am very excited to share this
award with them. I also have to thank my whole family for continually
supporting me in this sport, even through the tough times.
Overall, I’m very excited and optimistic about 2011 and I really look forward to working with Skip Barber next year!”
Rzadzinski will continue to finalize all plans for the 2011 season
back home in Edmonton, Canada. For more information and updates on Stefan
